The studio for really small people

Being a toddler and family photographer, I’m pretty familiar with Lego. However, a very different photography challenge was presented to me recently.  Lego itself!  Not just any Lego, but large flat Lego boards.  These were created by Oxford Brick Art, and although the originals are available to purchase, they will also be selling prints.

I initially thought that lighting the boards would be the challenge, as they can be shiny, but with the studio lights set up carefully there wasn’t any reflection on them.  However, the problem came about from the slight flex that Lego boards have.  The biggest board was over one meter long, and so in one corner the raised bobble on the Lego was beautifully in the corner, but a very slight curve meant that in the other corner the bobble was cut across, and it would be noticeable when printed.  With some fiddly work, a set square, spirit level and laser, I got the photos needed. I had never worked to mm perfection before and it was a good challenge.  As you can see from the photo below, I even managed to get a small smile from Bond.
